Troy Youth Assistance Awards Program
Our 8th Grade Mentors were honored for their work this year as a mentor. This group of mentors has truly been PHENOMENAL. They work well together and they work well with our 6th grade buddies. The advisors are truly proud of their work and they are truly Game Changers!
We shared the video created by Rachel Goodman and Emily John and Mrs. Schmidt had this to say:
Baker Middle School is an IB World School whose students demonstrate the IB Learner Profile. The goal of the Baker Buddy program is to develop a mentoring relationship between 6th and 8th grade students. This club has been in
existence for four years. Eighth grade students were nominated and submitted an application to become a mentor. This year, our mentors went above and beyond to establish a caring and reflective community during the school day, as well as outside of school. They served as knowledgeable guides during the sixth grade orientation as well as on our fieldtrips both in and out of school. They showed
a willingness to be open-minded by attending guest speaker presentations, planning holiday activities, reflecting on activities with advisors, along with our school principal and decorating our Baker community. Just recently, our eighth grade mentors were risk-takers when they shared their own Shark Tank research presentations in front of their sixth grade buddies. These student mentors have shown to be principled learners with both their attendance and their willingness to create a true Baker Buddy Program. We are extremely proud of them!
